Extending GO train service to Bowmanville may be a provincially funded project but the design and construction costs of the four new stations coming to Durham have been downloaded to the region, with developers expected to ultimately foot the bill through a Transit Station Charge (TSC).
Regional Council is expected to award the sole source contract for a background study on the implementation of the transit station charge at Wednesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting to a consultant team led by Barry Lyon Consultants, with implementation of the study “as soon as possible.”
The province has yet to release the necessary regulations to allow the region to proceed with the study, however, and there have been several residential and mixed-use development applications brought forward in Oshawa and Clarington proposing “significant” new units adjacent to the planned stations.
