As trade tensions between the U.S. and Canada continue, a travel campaign hopes to attract Canadian tourists.
Some Canadians are choosing to stay away from the U.S. in the wake of tariffs and Trump’s comments about annexing Canada.
The number of Canadians taking road trips into the U.S. dropped by 32 per cent compared to March 2024, according to March data from Statistics Canada. Airlines, including WestJet and Air Canada, have decreased U.S. flights.
There are even signs that people from Europe don’t want to travel to the U.S. In March, 17 per cent fewer visitors came to the U.S. from Western Europe, according to Politico.
With the possibility of fewer travellers this year, California’s tourism agency has decided to take matters in its own hands with a campaign targeted at Canadians.
