The enduring popularity of the Oshawa Generals in the community was on full display during the just completed first round of thee OHL playoffs, with Oshawa averaging 6,030 fans per game – 116.4 per cent of the official capacity at the Tribute Communities Centre of 5,180.
Based on percentage, Oshawa topped all eight teams remaining in the playoffs, followed by Brantford at 107.6 per cent (2,981 seats, 3,207 average attendance); London (which has the biggest arena with a capacity of 9,036) at 100.3 per cent; Kitchener at 94.5 per cent; Barrie at 88.2 per cent; Windsor at 78.5 per cent; and Kingston at 76.7 per cent.
Erie, Pennsylvania had the worst attendance by percentage, averaging just 3,210 at the Erie Insurance Arena, which holds 6,716 people for hockey games.
By total attendance London is first, averaging 9,061 fans, followed by Kitchener at 6,739 and Oshawa in third at 6,030.
