President Donald Trump abruptly cut off someone who attempted to talk over U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a joint press conference at the White House on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Trump announced he will move forward with tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico beginning on March 4 because he said the two countries should do more to stop fentanyl from coming into the U.S.
Trump reiterated the false claim that exporters pay tariffs, which are actually paid by the importing businesses, the costs of which are then typically passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices.
One reporter asked the president why he thinks this, but Trump simply restated his belief. The reporter also asked Starmer about Trump’s alleged ambitions for Canada, which he has called the “51st state,” and suggested that it should join the U.S.
