A U.S. chain serving Yemeni coffee has opened in Mississauga.

Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co., a U.S. chain with shops in Michigan, Texas and Illinois, is now open in Streetsville.

In the works for several months, the shop had a soft opening in the heritage building at 271 Queen St. S. in April. This is Qamaria’s first location in Ontario.

The long-vacant building was in poor condition and underwent a heritage restoration in the last year. The historic building was an Odd Fellows’ Hall from 1875 to 1956 and a glass and paint store in more recent years. It was designated as a heritage property in 1983.

The newly restored building has an open feel with high ceilings and modern, bright decor.

Founded by two Yemeni entrepreneurs Hatem and Munif, Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co., sources conflict-free Yemeni coffee beans. Yemeni coffee blends offer a unique combination of spices and herbs.

Hot drinks are made in traditional Yemeni kettles.

The cafe serves espresso drinks and chai. …
