UF officials name finalist for president [Video]

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida is a step closer to getting a new president.

Ono is currently the president of the University of Michigan and has an extensive background in health and medicine. He has also been president and vice president at numerous universities, including the University of British Columbia, the University of Cincinnati and Emory University. 

“Dr. Ono’s proven record of academic excellence, innovation and collaborative leadership at world-class institutions made him our unanimous choice. We are confident he is the right person to build on UF’s strong foundation and help realize our bold vision for the future,” said Rahul Patel, Chair of the Presidential Search Committee, in a statement. 

The recommendation comes nine months after former university president Ben Sasse resigned from the position. The …
