An under-pressure Rachel Reeves today broke cover as she defiantly insisted ‘no issues were ever raised’ about her expenses during her banking career.

The Chancellor said she was ‘never questioned, never asked to pay back any expenses’ as she hit back at claims she faced a probe in the past.

Ms Reeves was reported by the BBC to have been subject to an internal investigation into expenses while working at Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS).

She worked at the retail bank between 2006 and 2009 and the allegations have heaped pressure on her position as head of the Treasury.

But, speaking on a visit to Nottinghamshire this afternoon, the Chancellor pushed back at the allegations.

She said voters would judge her on her stewardship of the UK economy and not the accuracy of her LinkedIn profile, which has also come under scrutiny.
