Spring is the windiest season for most of the United States.

NORFOLK, Va. — Over the last couple of weeks, you may have noticed the wind blowing more frequently as we transitioned from winter into spring. 

As a rule, spring is the windiest season for a lot of the United States due to the stark contrast between the cooler air still dipping down from Canada and the warmer air seeping into the south from the tropics. 

Wind is caused by a difference in air pressure, as it moves from high to low pressure in effort to try and restore balance in air pressure. 

The stronger and closer these pressure systems are, the faster the wind speed. But if the pressure systems are weaker and further apart, the lesser wind speeds you will see.
