A major union says Premier Doug Ford has interfered with local politics by downloading services to Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon, but failed to meet other needs such as housing.
CUPE Ontario says the Transition Implementation Act that was announced last week is “interfering in municipalities’ business” by removing services such as control over major roads, garbage collection and stormwater infrastructure from Peel Region and turning them over to the three local governments.
“Premier Doug Ford and his Conservative MPPs are currently elected in all 12 ridings in the Region of Peel, and they have still failed to build affordable homes for people in Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon,” said CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn. “They have the power and the resources, and they’ve had six years. But the Conservatives haven’t gotten the job started, never mind ‘done.”
