The Republican lawmaker defended the White House tariffs strategy.

CLARENCE, N.Y. — Canadian leaders are describing their tariffs discussion at the White House on Thursday afternoon as productive and positive with another session possibly set for next week.

That meeting included Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who has previously threatened  to cutoff electricity to New York and other states. Earlier this week Ford also pulled back a 25 percent surcharge on electricity to the U.S. after President Trump promised retaliation.

Trump repeated his tariffs philosophy again on Thursday: “We’ve been ripped off for years, and we’re not be ripped off anymore. I’m not going to bend at all. Aluminum or steel or cars, we’re not going to bend. We’ve been ripped off as a country for many, many years. We’ve been subjected to costs that we shouldn’t be subjected to.”
