Environment Canada says to expect strong winds up to 80 km/h and up to 25 mm of rain on the weekend.

The agency has issued a special weather statement for Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Durham Region and elsewhere in southern Ontario saying rain and strong winds are possible on Sunday.

There could be between 10 mm to 25 mm of rainfall and winds blowing at 60 km/h gusting up to 80 km/h.

Environment Canada says the rain is expected to start on Sunday morning and last through the night, and areas further west of the GTA could see between 20 mm to 40 mm.

“Strong southerly wind gusts are possible late Sunday morning or afternoon. Localized flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads are possible,” the agency says.

Drivers should take extra precautions when out on the roads and postpone any unnecessary travel.
