Up to 40 cm of snow expected in parts of southern Ontario [Video]

Snowsqualls could bring up to 40 centimetres of snow in parts of southern Ontario.

A snowsquall warning has been issued for areas north of the GTA including Owen Sound, Blue Mountains, northern Grey County and the Parry Sound area on Monday.

Areas around Owen Sound could get between 20 to 30 cm of snow and the Parry Sound area could see total accumulations of 30 to 40 cm, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Lake effect snowsqualls, off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, are expected to develop Monday afternoon and continue into Tuesday afternoon, the warning stated.

Peak snowfall rates of three to five cm per hour are expected.

Snowsqualls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common, the warning stated.
