UPDATE: In an update posted to social media, Peel police said the event has been “postponed until further notice due to weather.” Attendees are asked to stay tuned for a new event date.

Multiple main routes will be closed for several hours Sunday due to a parade celebrating the Sikh faith happening in Mississauga.

The event is a celebration of Khalsa Day, which commemorates the establishment of the Sikh community in 1699, according to the Ontario Sikhs and Gurdwaras Council. Also known as Vaisakhi, Khalsa Day is also the start of the Sikh New Year.

Peel Regional Police are informing residents and drivers of the following road closures which fall in the parade routes:

  • Airport Road to Derry Road East
  • Derry Road to Slough Street
  • Goreway Drive to Morning Star Drive

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes. The closures are expected to remain in place between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
