Syracuse, N.Y. — Upstate New York could be hit with a line of snow squalls today, which could drop a coating of slippery snow amid falling temperatures and strong winds.

The cold front delivering those squalls is also expected to produce some lake effect snow today through Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

The squalls, accompanied by wind gusts of 20 mph or more, are expected to blow through from west to east, starting this morning in Western New York. They could reach Syracuse between noon and 6 p.m., and Albany from 3 to 6 p.m.

Squalls generally don’t bring much snow, but the temperatures will fall rapidly to below freezing as the winds kick up and reduce visibility.
