UWSP holds Pow Wow event, educating people on the Native American culture [Video]

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) – It’s important to learn about different cultures in our community. UW-Stevens Point held its Pow Wow event on campus for people to learn about Native culture.

The Grand Entry is where people of all ages rise to their feet and join together through song and dance.

“It’s a grand entry of all the dancers. The singers bring in the dancers. I’m one of the head veterans here today,” Ojibwe Tribe member Ozaa Wannaquad said.

The Grand Entry starts with the veterans leading the way. It is a sign of protection.

“They lead the way into the dance arena to clear the way, to protect. And so, they’re always in front and taking care of everybody. So, they open up the dance floor,” Wannaquad said.
