Vacant house fire sends Winnipeg firefighter to hospital [Video]

A Winnipeg firefighter was taken to hospital Saturday morning after battling a blaze at a vacant home in the William Whyte neighbourhood.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews arrived at a boarded-up home on Aberdeen Avenue around 6:30 a.m. to find smoke coming from the house.

Firefighters launched an offensive attack but pivoted to a defensive approach due to deteriorating conditions. Crews used aerial ladders to extinguish the fire and were expected to remain on-scene throughout Saturday morning.

According to a release, one firefighter was injured at the scene. They were assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital in stable condition.

Residents are asked to avoid the area.

The house previously caught fire in November 2024. The cause of this blaze is under investigation.
