Vicious shovel attack targets man in 70s inside Ontario home; neighbour charged with attempted murder [Video]

A man in his 70s was sent to hospital with serious injuries while another man, his neighbour, faces an attempted murder charge after a vicious and seemingly unprovoked attack with a shovel inside a Guelph home early Tuesday morning.

Guelph Police said that despite living on the same street, the victim and suspect had never met or had any prior involvement with each other.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to deal with a reported disturbance inside a home near Woodlawn Road East and Inverness Drive.

“Investigation revealed a man had damaged a fence to gain access to the backyard, then removed a shovel from a shed and smashed a patio door to get into the house,” police said in a news release on Wednesday. “Once inside, he used the shovel to repeatedly strike the homeowner in the face and head.”
