One woman is dead and a man is in life-threatening condition following a three-vehicle crash in Ajax on Wednesday.

Durham Regional Police say the crash happened near the intersection of Kingston Road West and Elizabeth Street, according to a post on social media around 1:30 p.m.

A woman has been pronounced dead following the collision while a man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police have closed the intersection at Kingston Road West and Elizabeth Street while an investigation is underway.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes if possible.
