A 19-year-old Ajax man is facing multiple charges after an attempted daylight armed carjacking Sunday.

Durham Police responded to an attempted armed carjacking at a home near Salem Road and Williamson Drive East at 1 p.m. Sunday.  The victim was sitting in his vehicle parked in the driveway when he was approached by a man who pulled out a knife and demanded the keys to the vehicle.

The victim quickly pulled out of the driveway and fled.

The suspect was gone before police arrived but officers from West Division, K9, the Tactical Support Unit and Air1 conducted a search of the area. Air1 located a “suspicious male” in the area and maintained a visual while directing officers on the ground to his location. The suspected was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

During a search of the suspect, officers located a knife believed to be used in the attempted carjacking.

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.
