Police are on the hunt for two men after a woman says she was hit from behind, knocked unconscious and then dragged into an alley and sexually assaulted in downtown Welland on Friday night.
The woman, who Niagara Regional Police say is in her 40s, reported to investigators in the early morning hours of Saturday that she had been walking on East Main Street near Cross Street at around 9 p.m. the previous night when she was approached from behind by two men.
She told police she was struck from behind and rendered unconscious. Upon regaining consciousness, the victim realized she had been dragged into a nearby alley and sexually assaulted by two unidentified men, police said.
The attackers fled the scene, leaving the woman in the alley, police added. The victim brought herself to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.
