DAWSON CREEK –In a decisive victory, Walter Mineault of Dawson Creek has been elected as the new leader of the Métis Nation of British Columbia.

In the election held up until September 7th, he secured 1,303 out of 2,655 possible votes.

Mineault, who previously served as a regional director and was named vice president in 2022, expressed his gratitude and humility on being elected president.

“To serve in this capacity has been a long time goal and I feel like I’m living a dream,” said Mineault in a Facebook post, having steadily climbed the ranks within the government that represents Métis peoples in British Columbia.

Mineault stated his next goal is to transform the nation into a significant ‘political force’ on both the provincial and national stages.

Additionally, Paulette Flamond will continue her role as director for Region 7, Northeast BC, after winning by a narrow margin of just three votes that was confirmed through a recount.
