A 31-year-old man is facing weapons charges after he was found asleep in a car.

Winnipeg police were called to the intersection of Home Street and Notre Dame Avenue around 3 p.m. Friday for reports of an armed man in a parked vehicle.

In a release, police said the registered owner, returning to his vehicle, noticed a broken window and a male sleeping inside with an edged weapon and firearm.

The WPS tactical team and patrolling officers placed the man under arrest without incident. Police said an imitation air pistol and machete were seized.

The 31-year-old is facing several charges including possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm, mischief under $5,000, and failure to comply with both probation and condition of release orders.

He was detained in custody.
