Freezing rain warnings are in effect for parts of northern Ontario.

Environment Canada issued the warnings for areas south of Hudson’s Bay.

“Long duration freezing rain” is expected, with two to five mm of ice accretion.

For western area under a warning, including Fort Severn, the freezing rain was expected to begin early Friday morning and end late in the afternoon, but possibly continue into the evening.

“Light snow is expected to transition to freezing rain or ice pellets early this morning. While precipitation is expected to remain light, the long duration of the freezing rain means that ice accretion of up to five mm is possible,” Environment Canada said.

“Freezing rain could at times be mixed with ice pellets, especially this afternoon, which could affect the total amount of ice build-up. Freezing rain is expected to change over to ice pellets or snow this evening.”
