A video about a bride’s wedding invitation has ignited heated discussion about nuptials held abroad.

The clip shared by @chelseacassavoy shows a woman looking at the camera with her hand held up to her face. Text overlaid on the video reads: “When you gave everyone 2 years notice on your destination wedding but now it’s time for everyone to buy flights.”

A caption shared with the post simply says: “Beyond thankful for everyone involved.”

The clip has garnered 1.2 million views since it was posted on March 18 and thousands of comments, including backlash from some TikTokers who claimed it is “rude” and “selfish” to have a destination wedding.

The viral post comes as just under of fifth (18 percent) of couples in the United States had a destination wedding in 2024, according to a survey of 17,000 couples in the country who got married last year conducted by The Knot, the wedding planning website.
