Wegmans debuts smart carts for a pilot program [Video]

The smart cart technology is available at three Wegmans locations.

Shoppers can test out the carts at Perinton and Pittsford in Rochester and Alberta Drive in Buffalo. Customers with Shopper’s Club cars are able to test out the carts at the Alberta store location.

The shopping carts are an early stage technology that hopes to offer customers an alternative wat to shop in stories in the future, according to Wegmans Public & Community Relations Manager of the Buffalo Division Michele Mehaffy. 

The test program is limited to only three stores to gather customer feedback and drive improvements. 

“Our goal is to determine if Smart Cart Technology is a fit for the unique shopping assortment offered in our stores and if it meets the shopping needs of our customers,” Mehaffy said.
