Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a man after he was found with a handgun while officers were conducting a wellness check.

Police said they were called to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Stan Bailie Drive around 11:20 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, officers said they found an unconscious man in a hallway.

While police were assessing the man, they said a handgun fell from the man’s waistband onto the floor. Officers arrested the suspect and seized the loaded gun.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police said the man would not identify himself. However, his identity was revealed by his fingerprints.

Malcom Christian Lado, 21, has been charged with four weapon-related offences, attempting to obstruct justice, as well as nine counts of failing to comply with the conditions of a release order.

He was detained in custody. The charges have not been tested in court.
