During the recent Ontario election campaign, the Progressive Conservatives promised to eliminate tolls on the provincially owned portion of Highway 407.
“My friends, the era of road tolls on provincial roads and highways, they’re done. They’re over,” Doug Ford said at a Feb. 5 news conference.
“A re-elected PC government will permanently remove tolls from the 407 east between Brock Road in Pickering and Highway 115 in Clarington — the portions of the highway owned by the province.”
Ford said it would save a daily commuter $7,200 per year.
“Just imagine that: anyone using that that area along 407, $7,200 a year (is) going back into your pocket,” he said.
