Where To Look Out for Aurora Over the US Tonight [Video]

Aurora chasers in the United States may enjoy a viewing of the northern lights tonight along parts of the country’s northern belt from Washington state to New York and Maine.

According to forecasters from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a G2-class geomagnetic storm is forecast for April 22 as strong solar winds buffet Earth’s magnetic field.

Geomagnetic storms are classified by the NOAA on a scale of G1 (minor) to G5 (extreme), with G5 being the most powerful and least common.

The northern lights may be visible tonight in parts of Alaska, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New York, South Dakota, Washington state and Wisconsin, according to a view line map shared by the NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center.
