A piece of an outdoor art installation in Downtown Crossing was removed for maintenance this week after it was torn apart in a midmorning act of vandalism. The installation is called Alouette, by Brandon Vickerd. It should feature a replica of a 1962 Canadian satellite that is supposed to look like it crushed a sedan near Downtown Crossing, which was removed after it was torn off the car and dragged on the street, according to a police report.On Friday, however, the sedan sat with its flat tires and dented hood outside 399 Washington Street without the satellite.According to a police report, witnesses said that a man in a black and white hat, black face covering, black puffer jacket, jeans and tan work boots pulled the satellite off the vehicle and dragged it across the ground.
