RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – What’s going to happen next with tariffs is one of the big question across the country, along with the uncertainly about what effect those tariffs are going to have on consumers.

South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson says he’s not a fan of high tariffs, but says he’s optimistic that tariffs will see a benefit in the long run.

“I mean higher tariffs just for higher tariffs good would would absolutely be a problem that would be inflationary,” Johnson said. “We’ve got some of these countries that don’t treat us well. Canada is tough on American dairy. Mexico is tough on American corn. If we can get those deals relatively quickly, I don’t think we’re gonna be forced into this false dichotomy of short term pain or long term growth. I think we’re gonna be able to stick the landing and get some pretty good deals …
