Whitby mental health advocate honoured with King Charles III Coronation Medal [Video]

Life has served up a series of challenges for Whitby mental health advocate (and former paddleboarder) Mike Shoreman since the day in 2018 when he was diagnosed with Ramsay Huint Syndrome, a rare neurological condition that left him paralyzed, with vertigo, hearing and vision loss, ultimately leading to depression and a mental health breakdown.

On Thursday Shoreman had a brush with royalty when he was awarded a King Charles III Coronation Medal for making a “significant” contribution to Canada.

“I am truly humbled and deeply honoured,” Shoreman said after being presented the medal by Whitby MP Ryan Turnbull. “Being selected for this prestigious recognition is both a privilege and a reminder of the incredible work that so many of us are committed to in our communities.”
