CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Expect more haziness, especially aloft, in the coming days.
Wildfires have been spreading in Manitoba and Saskatchewan in central Canada, leading to large amounts of smoke entering the lower levels of the atmosphere. Our weather pattern over the next several days will favor a northerly flow, drawing that smoke down into the Midwest.
This area of smokiness will arrive in northern Iowa as soon as Friday morning, potentially dimming sunrise a bit and giving it an extra orange hue. Those south of Highway 20 will have less of an influence from this smoke by then.
This changes as we go throughout the day, with thick smoke aloft reaching all of eastern Iowa. Expect a milky sky throughout the day, and more of those dimmed, but bright orange, sunsets.
