Wildfire smoke from Canada is drifting into the U.S., bringing hazy skies and air quality concerns to parts of Pennsylvania this week.
YORK, Pa. — As nearly two dozen wildfires continue to burn across Canada, smoke from the blazes is drifting into the northern United States — and could reach Central Pennsylvania as early as this week.
More than 25,000 people have been forced to evacuate in Canada due to the fires. The resulting smoke is already causing air quality issues across parts of the Midwest and is expected to push into the South Central Pennsylvania region.
Dr. Jeff Lazar, a pulmonologist with WellSpan Health in York, says wildfire smoke can pose serious health risks, especially when fine particles are inhaled deep into the lungs.
