While Alberta wildfire activity did not escalate dramatically Tuesday night due in part to cooler weather and some precipitation, temperatures in some areas are warming up Wednesday and expected to remain hot into the weekend.

The forecast for the Grande Prairie area, currently threatened by a fire burning near Kelly Lake, B.C., is calling for possible rain Wednesday evening followed by a few days of cooler temperatures.

Similar conditions are expected in Fort McMurray, though there is a risk of thunderstorm Wednesday evening, possibly bringing lightning.

Edmonton is also preparing for possible rain Wednesday evening; however, temperatures in the coming days are expected to remain in the mid-to-high 20s with no precipitation.

The Red Earth Creek area is preparing to see an increase in fire behavior, with higher temperatures, increased winds and low humidity expected.

Crews are preparing for challenging firefighting conditions across the province.
