Beatrix Gracella and Alberta Prabarini are the representatives of the Sokola Institute in Indonesia that won the 2024 UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy. They talked about their program at the opening ceremony of the 2024 China International Confucius Culture Festival and the 18th awards ceremony of the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy in Qufu City, east China’s Shandong Province, on September 27. The “Sokola literacy education for indigenous Indonesians” program by the Sokola Institute in Indonesia empowers indigenous communities with literacy and advocacy skills. It has educated 1,000 learners since its inception, including girls and women.
