A 28-year-old Winnipegger is facing charges after an altercation unfolded between a store employee and a man who allegedly tried to steal merchandise from a West Alexander area store.

Police say they were called to the incident Saturday night in the 600 block of William Avenue.

Officers arrived on scene to find two men fighting, one of whom had a large, edged weapon.

Police arrested the man with the weapon, and found the other man was suffering from serious bodily injuries.

Officers gave emergency medical care to the 41-year-old man. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable.

Police say their investigation found the 41-year-old man went inside the business and left with stolen merchandise. An employee of the business armed himself with the edged weapon and confronted the …
