Winnipeg police: Man suffers broken leg in arrest [Video]

The Winnipeg Police Service said the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating after a man suffered broken bones in his leg after being arrested.

The incident unfolded on Dec. 19, just before 3 a.m. Officers were called to the 400 block of Furby Street regarding a fight between a man and woman.

Police said one of the individuals was trying to stab the other.

When officers arrived, a man was out front with an “edged weapon” and confronted police. The WPS said the man would not listen to directions by officers and was walking toward them.

Police said officers used a taser on the man, which led to him falling to the ground.

He was arrested and taken to hospital.

While at the hospital, police said he was released on an undertaking and treated.

On Dec. 20, police were told the man suffered a broken tibia and fibula in one of his legs.
