A messy winter storm is expected to move through southern Ontario this week.

The “impactful” weather system will bring a mix of freezing rain, snow, blowing snow and wind through most of the province starting on Wednesday and into Thursday, Environment and Climate Change Canada said on X.

Areas north of the GTA could see up to 15 mm of snow on Thursday while the Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Durham and Halton Regions could get five mm of freezing rain.

There is a risk of freezing rain and ice on Wednesday night, the Weather Network said, noting there is some uncertainty regarding the exact track and rain or snow amounts.

The Weather Network said two systems —arctic air and warm air to the south— are creating favourable conditions for storms.
