Parts of the GTA and southern Ontario are under winter travel advisories or snowsquall warnings Friday morning.

Poor visibility in snow and local blowing snow are expected throughout the day on Friday, the advisory from Environment and Climate Change said.

Total snowfall accumulations of five to 10 cm are expected.

The advisory is in effect for north Durham Region including Uxbridge and Beaverton, Kawartha Lakes, Lindsay, Newmarket and north York Region.

Snowsquall warnings with 10 to 20 cm of snow are in effect in areas north of the GTA including Midland, Barrie and Muskoka.

Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather in these areas, the advisory stated. Environment Canada suggests avoiding travel if possible.

Conditions are forecast to improve Friday evening.

Areas in grey are under a winter travel advisory and areas in red have snowsquall warnings.
