A 63-year-old woman is dead after the car she was driving collided with a truck on southern Vancouver Island.

Police were called to the scene of the two-vehicle crash on Sooke Road near the intersection with Gillespie Road just before 4 p.m. Thursday.

While the crash remains under investigation, police say the woman’s westbound Acura collided with the eastbound truck at a sharp bend in the road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver was not injured, the Sooke RCMP said in a statement Friday.

Sooke Road was closed in both directions for several hours as collision analysts examined the scene before reopening the road to traffic at around 9 p.m.

Investigators are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Sooke RCMP at 250-642-5241.
