Woman charged after ‘fabricated’ sex assault allegation in Ontario: police [Video]

A woman has been criminally charged after a “fabricated” sexual assault allegation in Ontario, police say.

Niagara Regional Police said that on April 5 at around 1:20 a.m., officers responded to a report of a sex assault in the area of Glendale Avenue and Kerr Street in St. Catharines.

In a news release issued that day, police said a woman reported that at around 1 a.m., she was walking in the area when she was attacked and sexually assaulted by two unknown males who then fled on foot.

Officers, including the K9 unit, searched for suspects, but none were located.

The woman was also unable to provide a description, police said.

Police said since the incident was reported, they have been “actively investigating.”

“As a result of the investigation, detectives formed grounds to believe that the reported allegation of sexual assault was unfounded,” police announced Wednesday.

“Further investigative steps confirmed the allegation had been fabricated.”
