GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – The Gonzales Police Department is investigating a crash that left one dead on Saturday, June 29.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash around 8 p.m. on US Highway 61 at Louisiana Highway 44.

GPD said Jennifer Davenport, 38, was driving a 2023 GMC Yukon southbound on US Highway 61.

“For reasons still under investigation, the Yukon failed to stop for a red traffic signal at the intersection with Louisiana Highway 44 and collided with a 2007 Mazda 5 driven by Joey Gregoire,” police said.

Davenport was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said. Gregoire was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

“As part of the ongoing investigation, a routine toxicology sample was collected from Davenport for analysis,” GPD said.
