The marked security vehicle was taken from 625 Victoria St. E. in Whitby at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Monday, Durham Regional Police said.

Officers responded to the theft-in-progress and learned an unidentified woman had fled in the vehicle, police said.

Police said officers quickly located the vehicle nearby and attempted a traffic stop but the driver refused to comply.

She was held for a bail hearing.
