A pedestrian is fighting for her life after being hit by a school bus while crossing the street in Oshawa Wednesday afternoon.

A 68-year-old woman was crossing Simcoe Street at Mill Street – just north of Highway 401 – at 2:45 p.m. when she was struck by the bus, police said. She was taken to a Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

There were kids on the bus at the time of the collision but no other injuries were reported. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with police.

The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected by members of the Durham Regional Police Collision Investigation Unit.

The collision is still under investigation.
