LEWISTOWN (25News Now) – History buffs, nature lovers, and wine connoisseurs might have another option for their next road trip to Lewistown.
The oldest city in Fulton County has both American and Native American history.
At Dickson Mounds State Museum, visitors can learn more about the history and culture of the Native Americans who lived in the Illinois Valley for 12,000 years.
The city in Fulton County is known for one of Abraham Lincoln’s most dramatic and famous speeches.
While running for Senate against Stephen A. Douglas, Lincoln stood between the two pillars of the Lewistown courthouse and spoke against slavery, referencing what is probably the most cited phrase of the Declaration of Independence.
