On Thursday, the Manitoba government announced the samples were found at the Brandon Generating Station as part of Manitoba Hydro’s routine zebra mussel monitoring program. The news was then confirmed through follow-up sampling.

The province has activated its Aquatic Invasive Species Early Detection Rapid Response Plan, which involves creating monitoring and containment strategies.

The Manitoba government is reminding residents to remain vigilant against the spread of aquatic invasive species, noting that regulations and fines are in effect all year.

Requirements to stop the spread of aquatic invasive species during the closed-water season can be found online.
