BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) is expanding its scholarship program for local students in Brunswick and Columbus counties.
BEMC is awarding a $2,000 scholarship to seven public high schools in its service territory, totaling $14,000 in educational support.
In previous years, the organization only awarded two scholarships in total. According to BEMC, the new initiative is designed to provide greater opportunities for high school seniors who are pursuing higher education.
“We believe that investing in education is one of the most powerful ways we can give back to our community,” said Josh Winslow, CEO of BEMC.
BEMC explained in an announcement a scholarship will be awarded to a student from each of the seven public schools located within their service territory. School officials will work with BEMC to select deserving recipients.
