N.S. news: Man charged with hitting officer with ATV [Video]

An 18-year-old man was arrested after allegedly hitting a Halifax police officer with an ATV early Saturday morning.

An officer spotted an ATV driving dangerously in the Dentith and Herring Cove Road area around 3 a.m., according to a news release from Halifax Regional Police.

The driver allegedly tried to flee by reversing the ATV and hit the officer. Police say the suspect then fled on foot, but was quickly arrested.

The officer went to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Austin Henneberry will appear in court to answer to charges of:

  • assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
  • operation of a conveyance while impaired
  • failure or refusal to comply with a demand for testing
  • resisting arrest
  • dangerous operation of a conveyance
