Advocates discuss Canadian company’s alleged human rights abuses in Namibia – April 9, 2024

James Yap, acting director of the International Human Rights Program (IHRP) at the University of Toronto’s faculty of law, and Karen Hamilton, director of Above Ground, hold a news conference in Ottawa to discuss alleged human rights abuses in Namibia by Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd (ReconAfrica). The Namibian organization Saving Okavango’s Unique Life (SOUL) and IHRP have submitted a complaint to the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) regarding the Calgary-based oil and gas company’s operations in Namibia. ReconAfrica also has operations in Botswana.
