Agreements signed with federal government to improve health care and long-term care, New Brunswick

Good day ladies and gentlemen, this is IRC news, I am Joy Stephen, a certified Canadian Immigration practitioner, and I bring to you this Provincial News Bulletin from the province of New Brunswick. This recording originates from the Polinsys studios in Cambridge, Ontario.

The provincial and federal governments have signed two bilateral agreements aimed at improving access to health and long-term care services.

The federal government will provide more than $430 million to the provincial government over 10 years.

Through the health-related agreement, entitled Working Together, the federal government will provide more than $313 million to support New Brunswick’s three-year action plan to improve its health-care system.

Progress on these initiatives and broader commitments will be measured against targets, with annual reports to be provided by the provincial government.

As well, the two levels of government will work to improve how health information is collected, shared, used and reported; streamline foreign credential recognition for internationally educated health professionals; facilitate the mobility of key health professionals within Canada; and fulfil shared responsibilities to uphold the Canada Health Act to protect access to health care based on need, not the ability to pay.

This funding will focus on many elements of the provincial health plan, including the mental health and addictions pillars.

Through the Aging With Dignity agreement, the federal government will provide nearly $117 million to support New Brunswick’s five-year action plan to help residents age with dignity close to home, with access to home care or care in a safe long-term care facility.
The recent announcement holds crucial implications for Healthcare professionals contemplating a move to New Brunswick.
